DOROTHY DAY HOSPITALITY HOUSE
Feeding the hungry and sheltering the homeless in the Danbury CT area since 1982

Other Activities at Dorothy Day

In addition to the late afternoon meal and shelter, volunteers lead other activities at Dorothy Day House.

Weekend Breakfast Program

Most Saturdays and Sundays during the year, volunteers from Christian Community Outreach Ministries cook and serve a hot breakfast from 7 to 9am in the kitchen. For more information, contact Rev Payton at 203-744-7976

Shelter from the cold
During the winter months (generally from November 15 through April 15), volunteers open the kitchen most nights between 6 and 9pm so guests can spend a few hours in a warm place before the shelter opens at 9pm. There are different groups that staff the Shelter from the Cold Program for each night of the week. If you are interested in volunteering and can get a group together to cover one night (at least two volunteers should be present each night), contact Paul Hines at 837-8444 or hinesp@wcsu.edu

Santa's Workshop
On a Saturday during the month of December, toys are collected and distributed to children in the Spring Street neighborhood. For many children, this is the highlight of their Christmas season. Donations of unwrapped toys are needed for this event. Middle and high school students can also help out with the toy distribution. For more information contact Mike Oles at 798-1884 or moles5@comcast.net
